Cheeky night in a wonderful hotel!

Amidst the absolute chaos that is our lives at the moment we managed 24 hours of bliss - for a much needed recharge of the old batteries.

Great John Street Hotel is a mere 15 minutes from home, right in the centre of Manchester.
We checked in at a minute past 2, our cases jangling with a M+S picnic, some chilled champagne, a pile of sunday papers and our pj's... aah, the high life!

The room was just beautiful ...
with a hand carved bed and mirrored furniture...
and the bathroom was galleried...over looking the bedroom.
The hotel had originally been a school house for children from the barge people who frequented Manchester's busy canals. After that it was bought by Granada TV and used as a canteen for, amoung others, the Coronation St cast (you can see the set from the bedroom window!).
It's full of interesting photographs from the buildings past, along with beautiful artifacts.
and the bar and rooftop playground were equally as picturesque
We managed to watch two whole films (eating two whole bags of family popcorn!) without interuption...it would have been hard NOT to relax.

Cleggy has gone up to Yorkshire to have a couple of days away with the boys - and all are due back tomorrow. I've finished decorating GB's bedroom (photos to follow)and can't wait til we're all home - it's way too quiet here without them!

  7. That hotel looks amazing! So much more character than all the Holiday Inns I'm used to!

I want to try some bed and breakfasts out this summer. Perhaps I'll find something as unique as this hotel (minus the roof top bar and TV probably!)
